Stop it GoPee!!

While commuting in Bangalore, I bet we would see at least one guy attending to his nature’s call. His vehicle parked on the road side, he would be busy leaving his autograph on one of the walls. What is it with men and peeing in public? Lets me call this sorry lot, GoPee(s).

I guess each GoPee believes it is his contribution of essential nutrients to the soil that Bangalore a green city.

Tell me how many of us have not seen a herd of these GoPees doing their national duty?

If you ask any GoPee, I bet his answer would be “It’s like yawning. Yawning is communicable. If one yawns and rest yawn too”.

Like a dog, a GoPee too must be attracted to smell too. More the stink, it’s seems like it is merrier for every passing GoPee to go and pee.

I remember seeing a billboard near a pond, “We don’t swim in your urinals, so please don’t pee in our ponds”. And it has also become common to see walls painted with “Please do not urinate here” signs.

If this public nuisance is not combated, our city will end up being a big restroom. I see two solutions to this problem:

  1. Government initiative: All policemen should be authorized to catch a GoPee charge him Rs.300/- as fine. The money collected as fines should be used to construct and keep clean public pay and use restrooms.
  2. Public initiative: Any ideas?

Come let us keep our city clean.

  • I am really impressed at your thought provking, inspiring blogs. It not only makes you ponder but think a solution within yourself.

I am sure some of us at some point of time have donned the role of goopees. We will now plan not to be a gopee.

  • Point taken, but what about government initiative to provide community toilets on every street, like the old addage goes - when you gotto go you got to go, the stiff fines are ok but provde facilities to the people and then if they do not use them - fine them. facilities are available yes but too little and literally too far in between. The infosys initiative though novel has not been all that succesfull, case in point the one at Shoole circle, thing opens late and closes early, people pee the sides of the toilet all night long, thing to do would be to involve local community groups, we have a residents association for every area anyway, give them some teeth, some NGO help and funds collected locally and ask them to maintain these locations, where there are no resident associations trader associations and building associations can do the same but the trick is to involve the locals when its their money that goes into building something then there will be accountability, these associations can also do a lot more like planting trees and maintaining parks, rainwater harvesting and a lot more.

The other option is offcourse the one already followed painting pictures of various gods on the walls.

Hope sparky with his reach can also view his tghoughts on public spitting which is a way more serious public nuisance.
